Source: Taiwantrade | Updated: 06 March 2018

The Regional Economic Outlook for ASEAN estimates an increase in annual growth to 5.2 % in 2018. Furthermore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia will hold elections this year, which will serve to accelerate fiscal policy and infrastructure development. Now is the time to grab the opportunity to discover business opportunities in New Southbound countries.

The Taiwan Expo made its debut in ASEAN countries in 2017, garnering much success and leaving its international mark. Capitalizing on this success, TAITRA has selected Indonesia as a first stop to hold the Taiwan Expo. This is the second TAIWAN EXPO at the Jakarta Convention Center, and is taking place March 29-31. Home to 11 themed pavilions and 10 exhibition areas showcasing more than 4,500 innovative products, this year’s Expo will serve to boost Taiwan’s visibility in the region. In parallel, the Taiwan Expo will host a series of activities including One-on-One Trade Meetings, Taiwan Medical Day, Taiwan Excellence Smart City Seminar, Taiwan Excellence Zumba Fest, Taiwan Cultural Performances and other exciting events such as bubble tea-tasting activities, enticing more people to love it!

The Taiwan Expo selected India and Thailand to showcase Taiwan’s latest technologies and cultural tourism, talent and education, as well as discover business opportunities and strengthen connections between the countries’ industries. In addition, Bangkok is endeavoring the grab the title of ‘World Design Capital’ in 2020; Taiwan hosted the event in 2016 and therefore has experience in this event. TAITRA will therefore set up cultural and creative bodies to implement future exchanges with regards to promoting design, economy, and sustainable development.

The Taiwan Expo will also select a theme based on the industry trend, such as ESports industry. According to Newzoo, the global ESports Economy is expected to reach $905.6 million in 2018 and is experiencing the most prosperous period in its history. Recently, a Taiwanese player won the Hearthstone Championship Tour World Championship in Amsterdam and Kaohsiung city won the host city bid for the 10th Esports World Championship 2018 (IeSF). ESports in Malaysia is also seeing an uprising trend – Malaysians are embracing and encouraging their people to participate in healthy competitive gaming. But of course, the booming ESports industry cannot exist without high quality hardware. The Taiwan Expo will therefore hold experiential activities with products that are prominently featured in ESports tournaments, in order to attract talented players to take apart in IeSF in Taiwan.
