Taiwan's largest ship building company CSBC Corporation and Belgium's geotechnical and offshore solutions company GeoSea have recently signed a cooperation agreement to form a joint venture to develop offshore wind energy.
The agreement was signed by CSBC Chairman Cheng Wen-lon and GeoSea Managing Director Luc Vandenbulcke at a ceremony in Taipei.
Under the agreement, the two companies will invest in the establishment of the joint-venture that will be called CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering Co. Ltd.
Starting with capital of US$20 million, the company will be set up within four months, Cheng said.
The joint venture is aimed at seeking contracts from wind farm developers and introducing marine technology and management expertise to Taiwan, he said.
CSBC will also work with GeoSea to support and transfer technology to the local marine engineering industry to facilitate the construction of wind farms, Cheng said.
